Elise & the Mill Swamp Indian Horses || Lifestyle

The Mill Swamp Indian Horse lot is bursting with life. Music sings through the seams of the tiny house, rare horses romp through the fields, and newborn piglets, puppies, chicks, and kittens watch it all. Yet it is also a remarkably peaceful haven, free from the distractions of traffic, internet, and strict schedules. My cousin Elise, who cares for many of the animals, showed me around one morning this week. I'm completely at a loss when it comes to animals, but as you can see from the pictures, Elise naturally communicates with them. She loves them and they love her!

They call it "The Little House" for a reason. No, it's not bigger than it looks inside.

If it's not guitar, you're sure to hear banjo, bass, or some other instrument tuning up inside.

Trekking through the buttercups to get to the mustangs. Most of the horses are a rare Corolla mustang breed which are being carefully preserved and restored here.

"This horse is such a diva. Don't be a diva, Black Elk."

Thanks, Elise, for being a stunner! (Lydia and Jen, you need to be there next time, too.)
